“We have created a concept of fresh food that can be customized by the diner. Our menu is merely a guideline of ideas and ingredients where you can feel free to tell us how you want it and the chef will make it that way, ” said Gregg Weiner, partner of The Cape. Located across from the Quadrangle and right off McKinney Avenue, a retro neon sign signals a hearty welcome. A patio garden, trees and a bridge give the feeling of being at a waterfront beach house. The exterior looks aged as if the sea air has deteriorated the paint. Inside, there is fresh white paint, an exhibition kitchen with an Italian wood-fired oven and large grills, and stained glass from the original 1911 dining room. Marine blue vases with fresh wildflowers and glass candle votives add sparkle. The restaurant is enclosed by floor to ceiling wide, wood-paned windows that affords glimpses of the six separate dining areas and the outdoors from every seat. Whatever seaside resort you are fond of, you will delight in The Cape’s menu offerings. Freshness is key. The Cape prides itself on simple, fresh seafood and meat selections. There is no microwave or deep and everything is available to be served natural or customized to your own taste preference by Executive Chef Israel Fearon (Roy's, Sambuca, Bice). Try the signature, traditional cape chowder with shrimp, potato and crab in a creamed broth, the simple, yet sophisticated grilled pork chop with cinnamon apple chutney, green beans and grilled yams, or the succulent tri-meat loaf with caramelized onions, wild mushrooms and shallot demi that will not make you miss Mom’s. Or choose from a fresh halibut summer salad, tuna kabobs with a wasabi dipping sauce or a tuna melt with sushi grade tuna seared rare and goat cheese or a wood-fired pizza. For dessert, the key lime pie, or macerates berries cocktail are incredible. The Cape has been featured in D Magazine, Envy Magazine, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and in the Dallas Observer and on Good Morning Texas and Good Day Dallas and their Sunday Jazz Brunch has just been featured on Smooth Jazz Television. The Cape features daily Chef specials and late night dining until midnight and 1 a.m. on Fri-Sat and $2 Cape cocktails daily. Sunday brunch is served all day and features Mimosas or Bloody Marys and live jazz. Open 6:00 p.m. until 1 a.m. Monday-Saturday and Sunday until 5 p.m. Private parties are welcome.
